Pada masa revolusi Iran dari November 1979 sampai Januari 1981, kedutaan Amerika Serikat di Tehran dikepung oleh tentara Iran, dan para staff dijadikan tawanan. Enam orang berhasil kabur, dan bersembunyi di rumah duta besar Kanada. Sadar bahwa setiap saat mereka dapat dibunuh, anggota CIA Tony Mendez (Ben Affleck) mengusulkan ide bahwa mereka adalah kru film dari Kanada yang sedang membuat film berjudul "Argo". Film yang menegangkan ini diangkat dari kisah nyata.
Set during the Iran Hostage Crisis from November 1979 to January 1981, the American embassy in Tehran is overrun, and the staff is taken hostage. Six Americans manage to escape, and are taken in by the Canadian ambassador. Knowing their days are numbered, the American government turns to CIA ex-filtration specialist Tony Mendez (Ben Affleck) who hatches a plan where he'll pretend the Americans are really a Canadian film crew scouting locations for a STAR WARS-knockoff called "Argo". Amazingly based on a true story.
